From 70+ year-old south-facing vines on the lower part of the Kupp slope. Here, the slate has decomposed and provided ample minerals and nutrients, generating a more intense, concentrated wine. The old vines provide a great density and a saltiness from the slate, which helps the palate to be very soft and long.

As a Riesling producer in the Saar, perhaps for some there is the thought that there exists Egon Müller, and then there is everyone else; Florian Lauer, in his tenure creating the Lauer wines, has moved heaven and earth quietly to dispel this notion.

Peter Lauer

From the hills of Kupp, a tremendous terrain in the Saar, Florian Lauer has largely championed the  dry-er wines, but also creates a few off-dry versions each vintage. One thing we notice continually with the Lauer bottles is how amazingly pure and open they are upon release; generally with wines of this structure and quality, there is a waiting period imposed upon the collector, yet Lauer's wines seem to transcend this. While one might think this makes them less age-worthy, I am here to trash that thought, as well.

When you see "Fass" (aka Faß, in the traditional German), that alludes to the barrel number - associating a large barrel and the juice from one particular vineyard will allow for a more consistent and unique impression from each site!
