From a vines averaging 15 years of age at 300-350m altitude in Castelnuovo Berardenga, this is a gloriously elegant Sangiovese that could have earned the Chianti Classico name, except Giovanna has battled for more stringent labeling. No new oak, but fermented in open-top wood vats before being transferred to larger oak barrels for 2 years of aging; another 6 months in bottle comes before release of this beautiful wine.

How Pre-Arrival Works

These wines are currently on the way to Thatcher’s Wine. We have sourced them from some of our clients' private cellars, our friends in Europe, direct from the domaine or through our other trusted networks. On each product you will note an estimated time of arrival. Understand that these are only estimates, and to ensure that your wine arrives safely it may be longer. Utilizing this method allows us to offer some amazing wines and gives you the opportunity to secure them earlier. Upon arrival at TWC you will receive a notification and we will ship the wines to you.

The wines from Le Boncie are just starting to get the press they deserve. Fresh, charming and oh so succulent Chianti that are declassified as IGT. Giovanna Morganti is a wizard and her efforts are clearly showing. To quote Galloni, "Readers who want to explore Sangiovese at its finest must put Le Boncie at the top of their lists." Just grab these wines. You won't be disappointed. Promise guaranteed. -Doug Kahn

Le Boncie

From an estate of only three hectares in the Chianti Classico zone, Giovanna Morganti has gained a reputation as one of the sparkling talents within Tuscany. Influenced by her father, who had made a name for himself as a firm believer in Tuscany's viticultural traditions, Giovanna has embraced not only the well-known Sangiovese, but also a number of historical Tuscan varietals, which she has planted in an experimental vineyard within her small property.

Everything is moved along with purpose and with grace - harvested by hand, and fermented in open-top wooden tanks; an extended elevage allows the wines to evolve and soften, including a gentle racking at least once to introduce a small bit of oxygen to the wines.

In counting Rinaldi and Soldera among their influences, Giovanna and her husband Giorgio have clearly identified a clear mindset of effortless perfection - hands-off winemaking by virtue of having performed the work in the vineyard to the highest degree.
