How Pre-Arrival Works

These wines are currently on the way to Thatcher’s Wine. We have sourced them from some of our clients' private cellars, our friends in Europe, direct from the domaine or through our other trusted networks. On each product you will note an estimated time of arrival. Understand that these are only estimates, and to ensure that your wine arrives safely it may be longer. Utilizing this method allows us to offer some amazing wines and gives you the opportunity to secure them earlier. Upon arrival at TWC you will receive a notification and we will ship the wines to you.

The golden-yellow colored 2015 Riesling trocken Schlehdorn Unikat is pure yet intense and concentrated on the nose that shows super ripe and dense stone fruit aromas intermingled with spicy notes of crushed slate (however, there is no slate in the St Nikolaus). Full-bodied, intense and very elegant on the palate, this is a tight, savory and saline Schlehdorn with intense and concentrated but still juicy fruit, fine tannins and saline acidity. 13.5% stated alcohol. Tasted from magnum at the domaine in August 2022.

The nose is spell-bindingly complex, featuring inter alia moss, smoky black tea, crushed lemon pip, quarry dust and white peach, a combination faintly reminiscent of great Chablis. Corresponding flavors hit the palate accompanied by a startlingly and unexpectedly juicy citricity. The textural richness characteristic of late-bottled Kühn Rieslings is evident, but initially masked by that citric brightness as well as by a slightly austere mid-palate undertone of stoniness. The vibrantly tongue- and gum-tingling finish is a salt-, stone- and iodine-rich super-concentrate of oyster liquor and lemon that tugs relentlessly at both cheeks and salivary glands. “Schlehdorn” is the cadaster name for the location of Kühns’ vines in the Mittelheimer St. Nikolaus, but they reserve that label name for the wine from one parcel of sixty-some year old vines. If tasting this doesn’t leave you feeling wrung-out, then your palate must be amazingly hardened; and perhaps also your heart. (Further background on this bottling and vines can be found my review of the vintage 2014 installment.)
