For two years, Gregoire Hoppenot managed vineyards for Maison Trénel, a Beaujolais negociant house owned by the Rhone valley's M. Chapoutier. His time with the company allowed him to understand - possibly better than anyone - the ideal terroirs of his home region.

Domaine Gregoire Hoppenot

Once it was time to move on with his own project, Gregoire built up an enviable array of top terroirs, such as the “Corcelette” lieu-dit in Morgon and Fleurie’s climats of “Les Moriers,” “Clos de l’Amandier”, “Les Roches” and “Les Garants”. Each vineyard has a South/ South-East orientation (except for Moriers, which is North-East facing), with shallow, infertile granite-laden soils at 250-400 meters of elevation. Each parcel is planted in a traditional Beaujolais goblet-style training and picked by hand.

In the winery, Hoppenot honors the truest expressions of his terroirs. All clusters are fermented whole, fermentations are allowed to commence naturally by native yeast (living in the winery), and no sulfur is added. Winemaking decisions are made by careful consideration of each plot and progressive tastings. There is no doubt that Gregoire is a perfectionist, and it shows in the quality of his wines.
