Named after a local wildflower, Viola Odorata is sourced from five lieu-dits surrounding Corgoloin: En Vireville, En Fontenelle, Le Creux de Sobron, La Montagne, and Le Forneau; the vines within are 55-115+ years of age. The grapes will undergo carbonic maceration for 5 days, followed by several rounds of pigeage over two weeks. Pressed into barrels - a small portion of which are new - for 14-18 months' elevage before bottling without fining or filtering.

We have sourced them from some of our clients' private cellars, our friends in Europe, direct from the domaine or through our other trusted networks. On each product you will note an estimated time of arrival. Understand that these are only estimates, and to ensure that your wine arrives safely it may be longer. Utilizing this method allows us to offer some amazing wines and gives you the opportunity to secure them earlier. Upon arrival at TWC you will receive a notification and we will ship the wines to you.

Though in the same family's hands for half a millennium, since 1994 the Naudin-Ferrand Domaine is perhaps in its most capable pair in the form of Claire Naudin. Though she bottles under several different labels, her ethos is the same, relying on strong, sustainable viticulture - and the wines reflect it in their grace and energy. BiNaume came to be in 2016 as a project between Claire and her husband, Jean-Yves Bizot.

Claire Naudin oversees now some 22 hectares between the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune, including incredible parcels in Aloxe-Corton and Echezeaux. Following the traditions she gleaned from her father, the work both in the vineyard and the winery are largely done by hand, gravity flow and performed organically, the focus always being the health of the grapes and their resulting juices.

Her approach is the antithesis of the outmoded 1950s mentality “Better Living Through Chemistry.” Or rather, she’s ironically taken the slogan back from the Big Ag giants and given it a healthier meaning, better living through the earth’s chemistry of her natural environment.

 

The wines under the Henri Naudin-Ferrand label are largely traditional, largely-de-stemmed - except for the Echezeaux - and barrel-fermented. Elegant and long-lived, the Naudin-Ferrand wines are well-known to any collector.

The Claire Naudin labels bear names of the Hautes-Cotes wildflowers, and are made a bit more naturally, without the addition of sulfur. They are exuberant and open beautifully to reveal the wondrous complexity of each Burgundian varietal's personality from the Hautes-Cotes' higher-altitude vineyards - unapologetically natural, shimmering with vibrancy, deep fruit, and energetic herbs and spice. 

BiNaume is a shared project with her husband, Jean-Yves Bizot that was a result of seeking to augment their meager 2016 crop. Wines of Gamay and Pinot Noir are harvested from Saint-Pourçain (west of Beaune) and vinified at the Naudin winery. Grapes are fermented whole-cluster and the extraction very light, the resulting wines uplifting and delicious.
