The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru, raised in around 20% new oak, has an open and more airy bouquet compared to the Grands Montagne. Yet with aeration it manifests subtle aromas of stem ginger and even a hint of fresh rhubarb. The palate is beautifully balanced with a perfect line of acidity, wonderful poise and subtle apricot, orange pith and saline notes toward the pixelated finish. If you can’t afford the red La Romanée, choose this white alternative.
