The 100% Cabernet Franc Rose is faithful to varietal: herbal, red-fruited, and intense while also being light on the palate. This is no Provenćale rose, and this combo of savoriness, freshness, and structure makes this wine an ideal complement to afternoon delights like pungent cheeses and pizza.

Blessed with a bounty of old-vine plantings (upwards of 80 years in some plots) and the mentorship of Nady Foucault (Clos Rougeard), the burly, dark and meaty wines of the Loire's past are well in the rearview mirror. Guiberteau's precision is a definite hallmark - following his mentor's guidance, Romain sought intense quality over quantity, meaning these wines are never easy to find, but well worth the search!

Domaine Guiberteau

Loire Valley wines might be all the rage, but for many, you come to the Loire wines later in your education. So it was that the regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy and even the Rhone got more acclaim, and only recently have we realized that in the region of Saumur lies one of the most pristine, glorious vineyards in the world - Brézé. Romain Guiberteau's grandfather started the family estate in the early 20th century, and his son-in-law Robert expanded it with the purchase of a large portion of the hill of Brézé, including the legendary Clos des Carmes.

Come 1976, Robert retired and, in a time where artisan winemaking was a losing cause, none of his children wanted to take over the estate; for two decades it was leased out, until Romain surrendered his fledgling law career to seize his family's land back when the leases came to an end. Seeking help from his neighbor, Nady Foucault, Romain eked out a small harvest which showed the immense potential of the old vines. Throwing caution (and the financial benefit of mass-production) to the wind, Romain dedicated himself to the vines and today garners high acclaim for his individualistic wines from some of the best terroirs in all the Loire.
