Domaine Bornard was started in 2005 by Phillipe Bornard and is now run by his son, Tony. Thinking differently than his father, Tony is driving the domaine forward in his own vision. While the style of wine has changed from father to son, Tony has also changed the labels on the bottles to be a bit more simple, but the wine inside is anything but simple.
Son of Philippe, one of the most important winemakers of Jura's natural wine revolution, Tony Bornard is an important character within the Jura landscape himself. After establishing his own small estate in 2013, he took over his father's land in 2017, and has dedicated himself to creating even more lively wines in his stead. Never afraid to experiment, Tony has crafted wines of every style from the clean, minerally-fresh styles of the modern Jura to the traditional Vin de Jaune and Macvin, to name only a few styles - always zero-addition, pure and stylish.
Tony recently completed the construction of a new, state-of-the-art winery in their native Pupillin, near the Swiss border of the Jura where their neighbors include one Pierre Overnoy. Overseeing 11 hectares of vines, the domaine creates a wide variety of cuvées based on Trousseau, Ploussard, Pinot Noir, Melon à Queue Rouge, Chardonnay and Savagnin. Going even further, he will experiment with Pet-Nat, Vin Jaune, Vin de Paille and Macvin beyond the more traditional reds and Ouillé wines. These biodynamically-farmed, high-altitude vines produce wines as full of character as they are refreshing with the trademark mineral strike.
