2019 A Chingao Vineyards & Envinate, Vidueno de Santiago del Teide, Tenerife
CellarTracker
A field blend produced with a mixture of red and white varieties from two plots of old vines in Santiago del Teide. All of the grapes—58% Listán Prieto, 40% Listán Blanco and 2% Tintilla—are fermented together, making this a clarete rather than a red or a rosé, but it is sold as a light red and is bottled after eight months in 228-liter oak barrels without any added sulfur. It follows the line of the 2018, but with a warm and dry year more like 2017, with very low yields. There is a strong influence in the aromas from the white grapes, balsamic and spicy. This is a little more rustic than the Benje but with clean and precise aromas. The palate is silky and has pungent flavors and some dusty tannins. This seems open and perhaps evolving at a fast pace. Only 800 bottles were made
