A longstanding house that has had undergone several makeovers, Taittinger is once again owned by the eponymous family who has alternately held ownership since first the Taittinger family assumed control in 1931. Long dedicated to Chardonnay-based champagnes, the holdings of the house are vast, with almost 300 hectares of vineyards, more than 40% of them Chardonnay.

While Taittinger creates a wide swath of styles, and have created many memorable labels - for instance their Art Series bottlings that became instantly collectible - the wines that are most highly sought-after from this legendary house are the two Tête-de-Cuvées: Comtes de Champagne, which comes in both a Blanc and Rosé hue, depending on the vintage. Always a vintage wine, these are 50+ year wines, able to withstand incredibly long aging in the cellar and reward the patient. Generally, the house will age the wines in their own cellars for a decade or more before release. Only a small bit of the juice is aged in new oak, and it seamlessly integrates to provide a harmonious texture.

The Blanc is 100% Chardonnay from Côte-des-Blancs Grand Crus, and the Rosé will blend in 70% Pinot Noir from the Grand Crus of the Montagne de Reims. 15% of the final Rosé wine is still red wine, producing the classic hue. Every smart collector has these tucked away in their cellars, knowing they never disappoint!
